About the site |
The unique monumental ensemble of the sculptor Constantin Brancusi “The Way of the Heroes” was created in 1937 in memory of the heroes fallen during the First World War. The compositional axis oriented east-west contains: the “Column of the Endless Recognition”, the “Door of the Kiss”, the “Table of Silence”, the “Alee of Chairs”. The Church of Saints Apostles Peter and Paul, built in 1927, must, in Brancusi’s conception, fit into the whole composition. The ensemble, which instead of placing the monument in the city, “placed the city as a functional element in the center of the monument”, demonstrates a perfect interdisciplinary fusion between sculpture, architecture, engineering, environment and urbanism.
|
Objective of the action camp |
The Maria Foundation will continue for the second year its work at L’ensemble monumental de Tirgu Jiu for the promotion and dissemination of the sites’ unique attributes at the local level, raising the awareness of youth, volunteers and local communities of the importance of cultural values of heritage from the proposed area, and helping protecting the site.
